A Busy Weekend

This weekend has been sooo hectic. Yesterday was our Science Olympiad Regional Competition, and we got (drum roll, please) 1st place!!!! It was an exhausting day, but fun. Not only did the high school team get first, but the middle school got 2nd place. That means that both teams are going to the State competition at the MSU campus. Seeing that we didn't get to go last year, it'll be even more awesome this year. For my individual placings I got 1st for Environment Chemistry (a test about soil, basically), 1st in Ecology, 2nd in Anatomy, and 3rd in Picture This (pictionary with science words). The Anatomy test was so easy. It was only 4 questions long and took about 10-15 minutes to complete. We didn't even have to use the cheat sheet that I spent many hours after school on Friday finishing. I kind of wish that it was harder... but not that much. After the event, most of both teams went out to eat at Fuddrucker's, and we basically had this back room all to ourselves. It was a good day. Today, not only did I have piano lessons, but also this Optimist Club Speech Contest that I had been chosen to compete in for English. I thought that it began at 3, but then I read the sheet again, and it recommended for us to be there at 1:30 because it started at 2. By the time I realized that, it was already 1:45. So, we had to rush around getting everything ready in a few minutes. Luckily, it was only a few minutes away, so we weren't late. When it came to my turn, I think I did okay; I messed up a few times, but other than that, it was okay. Unfortunately, I didn't win. In fact, when I went up there to get this paper thanking me for my participation, the person who was supposed to comment on my speech said that I had some interesting points, but he couldn't remember them. So... my speech, apparently, was so unique that he couldn't remember it. And that's supposed to make me feel better? At least I still get the extra credit for coming and spending half my afternoon there. In consolation, my parents took me to get ice cream, which was really good. All this activities have made me so exhausted, and I still have homework to finish!

Recap

Wow, it's been a while since I last blogged. Well, since then, there was my sister's birthday, and most of the snow has melted. Also, today, my mom found out that on the last middle school invitational, we actually should of gotten 1st place (instead of 4th) because one event was scored wrong. In that one event, we moved up from 14 to tying for 4th, which was enough to pull us to the top. It's interesting that all the teams that we competed against (at least most of the good ones) use the maximum amount of 9th grades they can, and we still beat them with a mostly 7th grade team. Anyway, to recap: on February 27th, my sister's birthday, we went to Ann Arbor. We had to drop recycling off first so by the time we got to downtown, it was later than we expected and we were all hungry for lunch. So, we went straight to Zingerman's. I shared a sandwich with my mom and had some soup and other goodies. It was delicious! After that, my sister, mom and I walked to this store down the street called Vintage to Vogue and tried on a bunch of stuff (the male half of our family went to Best Buy and bought a new microwave). My sister bought this shrug with her birthday and Christmas money and then my mom bought her a wool jacket that was on sale. My mom also got a double breasted purple-y fleece jacket that was also on sale, and by buying another jacket it was 20% more off. What a steal! I didn't come away fruitless and got this really cool ring with a white flower on it. We then met up with my brother and dad at this cafe/grocery store, where we ate these really good milkshakes. I got vanilla and my brother and sister got chocolate. My sister, wanting to go to Borders, drove with my dad and brother there, leaving my mom and I to walk. On the way we stopped at a tea store, cupcake store, mystery bookstore, and chocolate store. All in all, the day was a nice day off, so to say. Since then, nothing really interesting has happened. We had a Wednesday off last, and since the juniors are taking the ACT, tomorrow off, as well. That's where it gets weird. On Wednesday, half the sophomores (A-M) go in at the regular time to take a test, and then the remaining sophomores take it Thursday. For those two days, the rest of us go in about 3 hours late, and if you have "A" lunch, you go straight to lunch. While I appreciate having days off and getting to sleep in, this is really confusing me. But, at least I have something to look forward to.
