Before I tell you the crazy events of today, I should probably tell what happened yesterday after I posted my last blog. Well, after breakfast, a bunch of my relatives and I went on a walk with all 7 dogs that were here (2 left today). After that, we spent most of our 4th of July at the lake swimming and tubing. The tubing part of our day's activities was interesting (for lack of a better word). I went twice with my cousin, who is my brother's age, and both of us didn't want to be whipped around in circles. Before I continue, I must mention that this is my Uncle "Frank" driving, while we are being helplessly pulled behind his boat. Not to mention that we got a new tube, which, if my memory is correct, goes much faster that the previous one. Needless to say, my Uncle "Frank" whipped us, not in circles, but by driving as fast as possible around impossibly fast turns. Not only that, but it started to rain while we were out, and while driving around in the boat, they felt almost like hail. All the kids at the dock and my other uncles took turns riding, and there were several spectacular wipe outs. Surprisingly (although I'm not sure why I should be), one of the most fearless was my 5 year old cousin, who after a crying after a wipe out, declared that she wanted to go again. Meanwhile, we (when I say we, I really mean my cousin) were screaming our heads off.
Fast forward to night and the fireworks display. As usual, they were awesome. They should be seeing how much money and work my uncle puts into them. And I must say that they started with a bang. Below is a video I took sometime during the display (sorry, it's sideways).
Afterwards, we went around the back and watched some of the firework displays across the lake, which were entertaining, as well. And other than desert and a game of Mexican Train Dominoes (which I won 2 of 3 games), that pretty much sums up our 4th of July.
Today, after taking a walk with my dad, a bunch of my cousins/sibling and I had to pick up all the trash left over from last night's fireworks display. Man, picking up little pieces of cardboard off the ground is pretty backbreaking, especially when it's super hot and humid, and the sun is beating down on you. Whatever happened to child labor laws?? Anyway, we (cousins/brother/aunt/uncle) went down to the lake, where we stayed until 5:30 or so. I swear, I put sunscreen on so many times, and still I get sunburns. Go figure. One of my cousins and my aunt and her husband left early in the morning to get back to St. Louis, so there were slightly less people down at the dock.
My dad came late because he was fixing Uncle "Frank's" wave runner, which is only used when my dad is down here (to fix it). When he arrived, all of us kids down at the dock took turns taking rides with my dad, using up all the gas up in the process. And thus, we reach the climax of today's events. My dad and I were going to go get gas, but from the start, we were having troubles starting the engine. We made it about halfway to the gas station when the wave runner died on us. We tried starting the engine a bunch of times, and a few times we got a few feet before it died again. Of course, the reserve tank was also empty. We finally got near the gas station and my dad started the engine again and took off before it could die again. Unfortunately, this was after we passed into the No Wake Zone. Even more unfortunate was that there was a water patrol boat that just happened to be passing at the exact same time. Contrary to the gossip spread by SOMEONE (who we won't name *cough* Frank) around the house, we were NOT almost arrested or strip searched. My dad, who didn't have any ID and just happened to have the registration told them the circumstances and we were let off with just a warning. After that, there wasn't much excitement. Right before we left the dock we went on a boat ride where my Uncle "Frank" went at breakneck speeds. At least, that's what it felt like. When we got back to the dock, we found that the wave runner had somehow escaped from the dock, and my dad jumped into the water to go get it. And that's the end of today's excitements.
