Even More Tired...

Looking at the title of my last post, I kind of feel like a broken record. Several weeks have gone by, and I am still tired, have gone to another Science Olympiad competition., and have complaints about school. But that's just how it is; I never said that my life was always interesting and unique. The first major thing to happen since my last post was the Science Olympiad invitational last Saturday (not yesterday). We went to the same one last year, and it was probably my favorite invitational we went to, so expectations were high. The entire week before had beautiful weather, but as things always go, it snowed the night before and early in the morning. By the time we left that morning the roads hadn't been plowed very well, so we had to drive more carefully, and thus arrived forty minutes to an hour later than we expected. On the way there, we must have seen three or so wreaks, but we managed to arrive in one piece. As soon as I got there, I had to run in and possibly fill in for another person, who was running even later than us. Luckily, right before we had to go in, they announced that they were pushing all the events a half hour back, so I was saved this tragedy. The rest of the day ran smooth enough - on Sounds of Music, we didn't sound horrible  and in my other events, I was confident that I would place somewhere in the top ten. In between events, my friends and I played this game called Guillotine, which is a card game where you try to guillotine the people with the most points. I know, this sounds morbid, but it is actually really fun, especially when everyone gets competitive about killing certain people (like Robespierre). Before announcing placings at the award ceremony, they played this "newlywed game" where teams of two had to do activities (like wrapping toilet paper around each other and answering questions about each other) together. Since "Sacajawea" (if you don't remember who this is, look at past posts) dressed up as Darth Vader, she and other person on our team, who jokingly pretend that they are married and come up with outrageous lives together, were picked. They were pretty funny up there, purposely acting as if they were a couple with the answers they wrote down for the questions. Anyway, it was a good time. When we finally got to the placements, they really sped through them and we were done in no time. In my events, I got 4th on Water Quality (even though I am pretty sure they had some wrong answers on their key, which adversely affected our score), 6th on Sounds of Music (same complaint as before - the scoring didn't make any since and was too subjective) and 7th on Anatomy and Chemistry Lab (which was pretty good, seeing as we didn't even do the namesake lab in Chem lab). Overall, our team got 7th, but I am pretty sure we tied in points with the 6th place, and were 1 point away from the 5th place :(
Still, the day was pretty fun - at least until we found out that our Suburban, which we have had forever, broke down and wouldn't start. So, we had to cram everything into the other car, and leave the Suburban at the school. It's kind of ironic, because we had just leased a new car a few days ago, and had decided to keep the Suburban, instead of trading it in, and then it instantly breaks down after that. Long story short, my dad tried to get a hauling thing from U-haul, but the truck, but it was too heavy, so we had to get a tow truck anyway. So now it is just sitting in front of our house, until the weather gets good enough to work on it.
In other news, I am currently on the third day of our four day weekend, also known as Midwinter Break. I really needed this break, which partially warranted by the break. You see, because we were going to have break, all my teachers decided they had to cram in a test before we left and forgot everything. On Thursday, I had four tests, and I was so tired by studying and taking all these tests, that I am pretty sure I didn't so well on some of them. One of them, my math test, was actually on Wednesday, but since I had to do this stupid preparation bubbling for the upcoming ACT and other standardized tests we have to take, I missed it. So, instead of not getting behind, I was bubbling in if I liked building birdhouses or sorting and stacking boxes. Sounds productive, doesn't it? But the week was all horrible, on Tuesday, French Club had its annual Mardi Gras Party, which I went to and helped out in. It was a week early, and thus on Valentine's Day, because the teacher sponsors thought that no would remember to come on the first day back from a four day weekend, which is probably true. Even so, the party, was fun - I at a ton of delicious food and then helped run a game, and in reward for my hard work, got a bag full of prizes without playing any of the games. Also, in English, we had this satire unit, and read some pieces, including an excerpt from Voltaire's Candide, which was very amusing. We then wrote our own satire pieces, and if I do say so myself, I though my essay on single women staying home on Valentine's Day eating ice cream out of the pint with their cats and the lengths they'll go to find "the One" was pretty funny. That's pretty much it for now, but I am sure to report more once we go to our next and final invitational, which is next Saturday. Wish us luck!
