A Long Week
This has been a verry long week, and to top it off, we had an all new schedule because of the new semester. It wasn't that significant or that busy, but for some reason I was soooo tired by Friday. On Thursday, I had a French Club meeting after school. We painted posters advertising out Mardi Gras party, which anyone can attend, if they buy a ticket. I didn't do any of the painting, but instead drew a poster on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper that's going to be copied and posted around the school. Then Friday, my sister missed the bus home, which I didn't notice until she didn't get off at our stop. Apparently, she had left her lunch box in her class and had to go back to get it, making her late. So, when I got home, no one was there... not even Kingsley. Apparently, my mom went to go pick her up, then picked up my brother at school, and then they all went to Panera Bread without me! The only other excitement was that our High School Science Olympiad Invitational, which was going to be in Holland, got cancelled, so we were scrambling around to find an invitational to go to. The only two available were already full, so the second one offered to sell us the tests and we were going to put on our own at our high school, just for ourselves. But, then another school, who was going to attend the Holland invitational, and said that they were going to put on a "practice day." No placings or medals, just practice. To round off the week, I had a sleep over at my friend's house. There was one of my other friends there, and for dinner we went out to eat at a Mexican restaurant nearby. We stayed up late watching NCIS (recorded), the Miss America Pageant, and Myth Busters, but then we had to get up at 8 this morning because they had to go to church. That's all that happened this week.

Laingsburg and Science Olympiad

One Invitational down, one to go. The Laingsburg Invitational went pretty well; we placed 3rd place overall. The placings are as follows: Anatomy 6th, Battery Buggy 2nd, Bio-Process Lab 4th, Can't Judge a Powder 3rd, Compute This 10th, Disease Detectives 3rd, dynamic Planet 1st, Ecology 2nd, Elevated Bridge 1st, Experimental Design 4th, Fossils 5th, Junkyard Challenge 3rd, Meteorology 9th, Ornithology 5th, Pentathlon 6th, Physical Science Lab 3rd, Road Scholar 5th, Science Crime Busters 6th, Shock Value 3rd, Solar System 6th, Trajectory 2nd, Wright Stuff 1st, and Write It/Do It 4th. What was really annoying was that 3 tied for 2nd, but got 3rd because we got 1 less 1st place finishing. 1 less! And we would have gotten 1st place in Trajectory if my dad hadn't informed the person who was running the event that he was scoring wrong, causing us to drop down to 2nd. My friend stayed over the night on Friday, and came with us on Saturday. Basically what we did was do stuff if asked, ran around taking pictures and video taping events, and grading the Ecology test, which my mom wrote. It was actually pretty fun; there was only a hour or so where we didn't have anything to do and were just sitting around playing on her Ipod. Afterwards my family and friend went out to eat at Red Robbins, which was good as always. I was exhausted by this time; getting up early and working all day long, so I went to bed at 9 or so. I was still tired today, so after piano lessons, I took a 2 hour nap. That all that happen this weekend.

Rest and Relaxation?
Finally, the exams are over! No more studying, making up of notecards, or stress. Actually, it wasn't that bad. I kind of enjoyed the half days, even with the tests. I'm pretty confident that I did okay; I definitely passed. Now with tomorrow off, I have time to relax this weekend, except Saturday. Saturday is the Lainsburg Science Olympiad Invitational for the middle school SO team. It's all day long, and since my parents are running it, I'll be going. So that means we'll be getting up at the crack of dawn... just when I thought I had a break. It'll be different this year, not competing. I've decided that I'll be the official video recorder, and I'll be helping my mom grade tests. I hope that it will still be exciting, and not a complete bore. I expect it will be as hectic and as fun as usual. If my friend comes with us, it'll be even better. Now the whole family is going to be busy today and tomorrow preparing for the event... so much for relax?

Exams
Basically all we did today in school was prepare for exams. It must have exhausted me (or maybe it's getting up early) because I could barley keep my eyes open today, I even took an hour nap after school. I brought home my French, English, and History stuff home from to study this weekend. My first exams are English and History, which are on Tuesday (we have no school Monday). English is one of the ones that I think I'll have the most trouble, so I'll be studying hard this weekend. Luckily, Monday is free. We are having a high school Science Olympiad practice/pizza night, which is fun. I wonder what movie we'll be watching...

Studying
This week I have or will have a test in every class except Biology. I guess it's the pre-exam cram, where they're trying to finish all the stuff you need to know for our exams. But still, you think that the week before the exams teachers would cut us a little slack. Today I had 3 major test; it's like all the teachers coordinated their test dates to give us the maximum stress levels. We have next Monday and Friday off; which is before and after our finals, and then Tuesday to Thursday are half days. Some of my classes you can take in notes, and I've already made some of them. But, the subject I want most to have help, French, is one of the subjects with no notes allowed. I also had the mile run in PE today. It wasn't that bad- I got 8 minutes, 45 seconds, which was about the time that I got earlier this semester, but this time I wasn't as winded. I almost wish I had pushed myself a little bit more. Guess what, I have to study. What a surprise.

No Snow Day
My family just watched Marley and Me. My sister had checked it out from the library, and none of us had seen it yet, so we watched it. It was soooo good. I practically cried continuously for the last 30 minutes. You knew that the dog was going to die, though. It kind of had to. About the snow day, we didn't have one. Of course. I don't even know why I thought it might have been possible. I think the school officials hate us. Some schools (private mostly, though) closed the night before, and they probably didn't even consider closing. Whatever, I'm still glad we got a ton of snow, even though I probably won't even get to play in it. Why, you might ask? It's because I have to work on my English book report, which is due Monday. Even though it's not very hard, it's so time consuming. I spent 2 hours today working on one component of the project, and I'm not even halfway done with it. At least I already have quite a bit of it done. Still, there goes my weekend.

Snow!!!!!!!!!!!
It's snowing!!! It's been snowing for the past few hours and is expected to keep on going into the night, which means that there's a very good chance for a snow day tomorrow! We haven't had one yet, and no school year is complete without one, so tomorrow might be the day. This week it was really hard to get up after sleeping in during break. A snow day would be a nice reprieve. In other news, we got the new Science Olympiad tee-shirts in. The middle school team is orange with a gray bulldog on the front and our sponsors on the back. The high school team was supposed to have a paint splat on the front, but they misprinted one of the other designs we sent them but then didn't choose, so we have to get them redone. That's all that's happened in my enviable exciting life.

Happy New Year!!
Happy New Year!! Wow, it's already 2010! Can you believe it's a new decade? My whole family stayed up to midnight to ring in the new year, and at midnight, my dad yelled "Happy New Year" out the front door. I never really make resolutions, because if I did, I would probably break them. It's been a while since I blogged last, so here's a recap of what happened since Christmas. I wasn't expecting anything for Christmas, but I did get a homemade quilt from my Grandparents, which is really warm and already on my bed. It was kind of bad weather outside, so we stayed home the whole day. On the 26th, we went to my dad's family party. For most of my dad's family, this is the only day we get to see them in the year, so it was a nice visit. My dad's 3 sisters and there husbands, my Grandpa Fran and Lauretta, my great-grandma, and most of my cousins and their kids were there. We got there at 4:30, and ate dinner, hung out, and opened gifts. From my aunts, I got a pair of pj's (which I've already worn), 20$, a homemade bookmark, and a cosmetic bag with several lotions and other beauty products, and from my Grandpa Fran, money as well. On our way back to my aunt's house, we had to pick up some meds for my grandma, so we didn't get back until late at night. Well, on the 27th, we didn't really do anything exciting but, on the 28th (while still in Missouri), my mom, siblings, uncle, and I went to the City Museum in St. Louis. The City Museum is this old building that someone took a bunch of junk, and made slides, mosaics, and tons of crawl spaces. When we first got there, we had lunch, which consisted of St. Louis style pizza and warm chocolate chip cookies, both which were soooo good. I then went around with my sister taking pictures, until we got to The Caves. The Caves is this part of the museum that all the walls are covered with some kind of material that looks like stone, so it's like you're in a cave. Just recently, the museum was renovated, so that now in the caves, there is this slide you can go on (that wasn't finished the last time I came here) that is up ten stories, and goes down around 4 or so. You have to climb up a ton of spiral stairs to get to the top, then wait a few minutes, but it was worth it. I was dizzy when I got out at the bottom (the slide is also spiral). I also went outside and climbed around the various passageways there. It was very fun. For dinner, we met up with my other aunt's family and my dad (who was with his dad the whole day) at Red Robins, which was good. The 29th was the day we drove home. I convinced my parents to take a detour to Ted Drewes on the way home, which is this really good frozen custard store in St. Louis; I got a brownie concrete (which is like a blizzard). We got home at 10:30 PM and unpacked. The only exciting thing about the next few days is that my family went to see Sherlock Holmes at the local theater. It was very exciting and interesting to watch. I would recommend it to anyone. Now you're all caught up.
